Yoga as a Path
of Devotion
A curated library of yoga practices rooted in the Hindu and yogic tradition — from Surya Namaskar and pranayama to Yin Yoga, Yoga Nidra, and therapeutic sequences. Structured for beginners, meaningful for experienced practitioners.
These practices support physical and mental wellbeing. They are not a substitute for medical care. Consult your doctor before beginning if you have health conditions.
Yoga in the Hindu Tradition
The word yoga comes from the Sanskrit root yuj — to yoke, to unite. In the Hindu tradition, yoga is not primarily a physical exercise system but a path of union — between the individual self (jivatma) and the universal Self (Paramatma).
Patanjali's Yoga Sutras describe eight limbs (Ashtanga): ethical principles, personal observances, posture (asana), breath regulation (pranayama), withdrawal of senses, concentration, meditation, and absorption. The physical postures most people associate with "yoga" are just one of these eight limbs.
The practices here are offered in that spirit — as tools for physical health, mental clarity, and spiritual cultivation, not as a fitness programme divorced from their roots.
Asana
Posture. The third limb of Ashtanga Yoga. Steady and comfortable.
Pranayama
Breath regulation. The fourth limb. The bridge between body and mind.
Vinyasa
Breath-synchronised movement. Each movement linked to an inhale or exhale.
Savasana
Corpse Pose. The most important posture — complete conscious rest.
Bandha
Energy lock. Muscular contractions that direct prana within the body.
Drishti
Gazing point. Fixed gaze that supports concentration during practice.
