Festival of Lights — Lakshmi-Ganesh Puja
Diwali is the most celebrated Hindu festival — the festival of lights marking the return of Ram to Ayodhya and the worship of Lakshmi and Ganesh for prosperity. The main puja is performed on Amavasya (new moon night) of Kartik month.
What You Will Need
Step-by-Step Guide
Clean and decorate the entire home — Lakshmi enters clean, well-lit homes.
Make rangoli at the entrance and light diyas along the doorway.
Set up Lakshmi and Ganesh together on a red cloth.
Place coins, account books (bahi khata), and new pens before Lakshmi.
Perform Ganesh Puja first, then Lakshmi Puja.
Offer lotus flowers, marigolds, and sweets (kheel-batasha).
Recite Lakshmi Chalisa or Shri Sukta.
Chant 'Om Shreem Mahalakshmiyei Namah' 108 times.
Light all diyas in the home simultaneously at the auspicious time.
Distribute sweets and prasad to family, neighbours, and the poor.
