Griha Pravesh Pooja Guide
Housewarming Ceremony
Griha Pravesh is the traditional Hindu housewarming ceremony performed when entering a new home for the first time. It purifies the space, invites divine blessings, and establishes the home as a sacred dwelling.
What You Will Need
Step-by-Step Guide
Choose an auspicious muhurta (time) with a jyotishi or pandit.
Clean and decorate the entrance with rangoli and mango leaf torans.
Perform Ganesh Puja first — to remove obstacles from the new home.
Perform a Havan (fire ritual) for purification of the space.
Boil milk in a new vessel until it overflows — symbolising abundance.
The lady of the house enters first, carrying a Kalash and Ganesha murti.
Light the first diya in the home and place it in the puja room.
Perform aarti and distribute prasad to all present.
Feed guests and family — the first meal in the new home is auspicious.
The timing (muhurta) of Griha Pravesh is considered very important. Consult a jyotishi for the most auspicious date and time based on the family's horoscope.
